English Abstract

The thesis consists of five chapters preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion that includes the most important results and recommendations. It is as follows: Chapter One: This chapter focused on studying the geographical characteristics of the study area. The study included the natural characteristics and the study of the human characteristics of the study area.

Chapter two: This chapter was about the study of climatic factors affecting the cultivation of grapes and pomegranates, especially, temperature, wind, humidity and rain. Spatial analysis of these elements using multiple regression models, as well as temporal analysis of climate components affecting grape and pomegranate cultivation, and evaluation of the direction of change in the values of these elements Chapter three: This chapter touched on the study of agricultural climate in the study area. It contained; the study of the cultivated varieties in the studied area, the study of the development of cultivated areas and production of grape, as well as the study of the climatic needs of growing grapes and their availability in the study area, appropriate temperatures during the growth season, heat accumulated during the growth season, humidity, rain quantities, evaluation of the effect of climate deviations on the season of agricultural growth of grapes. This chapter also included a study of the effect of climatic elements on the annual productivity of the donum and tree (Pearson correlation coefficient).

Chapter four: This chapter focused on the study of the agricultural climate of pomegranates in the study area. It contained; the study of the cultivated varieties in the studied area, the study of the development of cultivated areas and production during recent years, as well as the study of the climatic needs of growing pomegranate and their availability in the study area, appropriate temperatures during the growth season, heat accumulated during the growth season, humidity, rain quantities. In addition to estimating the values of deviations in temperature from the appropriate limit for the growth, flowering, and pomegranate maturity. This chapter also included a study of the effect of climatic elements on the annual productivity (Pearson correlation coefficient).

Chapter five: It contained a study of climate, and plant diseases of grape and pomegranate crops. It included the study of the effect of climate elements in the spread of the causes of some diseases of grapes and pomegranates, especially fungal ones. Some diseases of grapes and pomegranate, which are significantly affected by elements of the climate were studied. In addition to estimating the severity of the incidence of some of these diseases through knowledge of their needs, thermal limits, and the growth of fungus causing it, and comparing this to the temperature and humidity prevailing in the study area.

Through the previous chapters, the study reached several results, the most important of which are:

According to Köppen climate classification; Baquba districtis located within the dry desert region BW. Thus, its climate is hot and dry with little rain, which was reflected on the agricultural reality in the district, influenced the production of grapes and pomegranates through different climatic elements, especially heat and humidityin terms of water imbalance as a result of increased transpiration and drying of fruits and fragmentation, and contributed to the spread of diseases. All this has led to reduced production, loss and death of many trees.

The surface runoff water (Diyala River and its branch irrigation networks) has played an important role in the successful cultivation of grapes and pomegranate crops in Baquba. The sources of surface runoff water have compensated for the shortage of rainfall that does not meet the requirements of the two crops required for successful cultivation and sustainability.

The wide transport routes network in Baquba plays an important role in the success of the agricultural process by linking the production areas (orchards and farms) and drainage areas (markets). As well as the marketing activity that has given importance to the cultivation of agricultural crops in general and grapes and pomegranates in particular.

The labor force in agriculture in Baquba district is about 30% of the total population of the district. This gives an indication that agriculture, including grape and pomegranate, is of great importance to the lives of the population and constitutes an important source of annual income for a large proportion of the population of the district.

The area of arable land in Baquba district is 452870 dunums, which constitutes 69% of the total area of the district of 652.000 dunums. This has contributed to the diversification of the cultivation of many agricultural crops and various varieties.
Decreased area cultivated with grapes and pomegranate crops annually, resulting in a decrease in production. The reason for this is the bulldozing of a number of orchards and other loss caused by their owners, as well as damage caused by diseases prevalent in the study area by climate elements.

It has been shown that the number of actual hours of solar brightness is sufficient for the growth and maturity of the grape harvest, because the study area receives large amounts of solar radiation. As well as the total accumulated heat is sufficient for the growth and maturity of the grapes.

There is a strong positive correlation of 0.757 between the mean maximum temperature during July as an independent variable and the tree yield of grapes as a dependent variable, where the amount of production and annual productivity of the tree increases as the temperature increases during this period of the year.

There is an inverse correlation between the mean of the minimum temperature during March as an independent variable and the yield of the tree from the grapes as a dependent variable. When the temperature drops during the flowering period of the grape, the annual productivity of the tree increases. Where the grapes during the flowering period prefer weather slanted to cold to achieve good blossoms and nodes.

There is an inverse correlation between mean relative humidity during July as an independent variable and tree yield of grapes as a dependent variable. When relative humidity increases during the maturity period of grapes, the annual productivity of the tree decreases due to increased chance of fungal infections.

There is a strong positive correlation 0.551 between the mean of the maximum temperature during July as an independent variable and the yield of the pomegranate tree as a dependent variable. When the maximum temperature increases during this period of the year, the amount of production and annual.

It is noted that there is a positive correlation between mean wind speed during March as an independent variable and tree yield of pomegranate as a dependent variable. When the wind speed increases during the flowering period, the annual productivity of the tree increases, where wind works to increase the pollination rate and thus increase productivity.

There is an inverse correlation between the mean relative humidity during April as an independent variable and the tree yield of pomegranates as a dependent variable. When relative humidity increases during the flowering period, the annual productivity of the tree decreases because of the increased chance of fungal infections.
