Abstract

The study area is located in the mountainous region of Iraq in the north-east of it and consisting of three mountains (Mount of Balkin , Mount Pradost and Mount Mirgah Sur). The study area is about  (291.85 ) km2 .

The factors and processes that formed of slopes the region and the reasons for the diversity of these slopes in the study area in terms of degrees of slope the most important problems addressed by the study to understand characteristics of slopes prevailing in the study area and follow its evolution according to the environmental variables surrounding the area by using techniques of remote sensing and geographic information systems ( GIS) and field study to identify the types of slopes and the processes leading to it is formation and stand on risks arising from these slopes .

We show that the Morpho dynamic processes which includes the slow and rapid movements of the materials are affected by the degree of slopes , the rapid movement arises in area which has sever slopes , unlike the slow movement which aries in the area with slight sloping (0 – 15 ) .

It is through the study of a range of categories slopes adopted to reach an accurate description of the area and these classifications (Young, Demek, and detailed classification of area), where concluded that the proportion of land which is characterized by simple slope (1 ° -15 °) is (33.2%), and this are is characterized to be flat to silent slope . according to classification Young , and flat to wavy area due to Demek classification , and the percentage of land which is characterized by severe slope (25 ° - 45 °) is about (16.8%), these lands is characterized by severe slope according to the Young classification, and the lands of low and hills according to Demek classification which are documented by images conducted through field work for the area of study , by multiple visits .

Through the study we identified the elements of Physical Geography of study area from the point of geological formations , climate , terrain, soil, underground water and the cover plants. And the effect of geomorphical factors have a great diversity on these series charactiricts . the geological buildup , and the diversity of the rocks have an effect on the response for erosion and its impact on the land forms .

We showed that the climate, soil and plant cover has a great role in the formation of terrain appearance in the area of the study to a varying degrees from one place to another.
