Abstract


   The current study aims to determine the dry seasons north of the °35 latitude in Iraq using the standard precipitation index (SPI) standard, which defines and classifies the dry and wet seasons during the seasons (fall, winter, spring) and (rainy season) (D) using the CROP WAT program, through which the climate of the study area is classified according to the Monthan Banean budget, as well as the general trend of drought according to the drought coefficient (D).

  The study relied on the data of the monthly averages of rainfall for nine climatic stations distributed over the study area geographically and for( 35) seasons for the period (1979-2014), which were downloaded from (http: // global weather data for swat.tamu. edu). The duration of the study for each of the stations in the study area was divided into two climatic periods for comparison. The first climatic period (1979-1997) was for (18) seasons, while the second climatic period (1998-2014) for (17) seasons. 

   The study found that the general trend of the drought took a decreasing trend during the seasons (fall, winter, spring) and (rainy season) for the period of study (1997-2014) for all the stations of the study area. The first climatic period (1979-1997) During the seasons (,fall winter, spring) and (rainy season) for all stations. The wet seasons for the first season were (71)% (86%) and the dry season was (29%) (14% ). The second climatic period (1998-2014) led to drought for all stations in the study area. During the seasons and the vessels of the rainy season (68%) (78%) The percentage of wet seasons stood at (32%) (22%).
