The present study aims at identifying and revealing the land forms that are predominant in Rumaitha district by investigating the natural agents and the geomorphological processes that are prevalent in the area of the study which have led to its construction, measuring its activity, and knowing the traces that are made by it currently and in the future. In addition, it seeks to identify the prevalent forms in the area of the study and measuring their activity, dimensions, and effects on the area of the study to produce a detailed geomorphological map that represents the geomorphological forms of the area to identify the effect of the geomorphological processes and phenomena that resulted by the human activity.
Al-Rumaitha city is part of Al-Muthanna governorate administratively and includes four administrative units ( the center of Al-Rumaitha, Al- Majid, Al-Najmi, Al-Hilal). It is bordered by Diwania from the North-west , Samawa and Salman Cities from the south and Al-Warka city from the east. The area of the study is a part of the Iraqi alluvial plain . astrologically, it is located between(15-31 44-31) latitudes and between ( 1-45 44-59 ) meridians. The area of the city is (1299.20 Km2 ).
The area of the study is also characterized by the variation of natural plants despite their rareness due to the drought that had affected the area. Concerning the geomorphological processes, each process has been studied separately to check its effect on forming the earth phenomena and the properties of the rivers' net and thus, the prevalent morphological processes in the area of the study that contributed in forming the geomorphological phenomena, has been identified. These are Morpho-tectonic processes, morpho-climatic processes, the processes of water and wind erosion, karst processes, bio-processes, and Morpho-dynamic processes.
The study has included four chapters, the first one includes the dominant natural elements in the area of the study. It was concerned with the geology of the area as well as the climate properties and water B sources. Chapter two is interested in the study of the dominant geomorphological processes in the area of the study which are classified according to their effect on the landscapes. Chapter three is concerned with the study of land forms and the composed formed because of the geographical processes. The last chapter is devoted to study the practical aspects of the study through showing the most important geomorphological processes and the resulted phenomena due to the human activity.
The interaction between the natural geographical characteristics, and the properties of the rivers' net, the forms of earth surface that were classified according to process that led to form it as there are some erosive watery surface forms and some others resulted by the water induction as well as some made by water sediments etc. The study has pointed out that the geomorphological processes and the geomorphological forms and phenomena that were resulted by them had clear effect on the human activity in addition to their effect on settlement as most of the population had settled beside Euphrates River and its branches: Alsabil and Al-Atshan. Moreover, this area is characterized as having agricultural activity especially in planting wheat and barley along the stream of the river since the soil there is fertile soil. Transportation ways are set along that and some important economic and constructive resources are available with considerable additional reserves.
