Geomorphological Hazards On the Archaeological Sites in Sohag Govenrate

Summary

The present study consists of six chapters preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion.

The introduction shows what the study has been dealing with; and the conclusion summed up the results that the research has arrived at, offering some suggestions and solutions to reduce the Geomorphologic Hazards which threaten the Archaeological Sites in the study area.

The introduction includes in details the location of the study area, the importance of the topic and the reasons for choosing it, then it shows a presentation for the objectives, the stages, and the sources of the study. It ends with the methods which the study depended on and the contents of the study.

Chapter 1: deals with the natural features of the area under study which subdivided into climate features, geological features, relief features and geomorphologic features. It ends with a division for the study area into three relief regions which are Flood Plains, lime Scarps and Plato. The characteristic of each region have been studied with the concentration on the regions containing the Archaeological Sites.

Chapter 2: deals with the geographic distribution for the Archaeological Sites in Sohag Governorate and the reasons for choosing these sites joining these reasons with the human, religion and natural factors. Then it sheds light on the Geomorphologic Hazards which the Archaeological Sites face in Sohag and the human role in increasing these hazards.

Chapter 3 : has the name 'The Hazards of Under Ground Water on the Archaeological Sites in Sohag Governorate'. It studies the hydrochemistry features for under ground water in Sohag . It also studies the features of the Archaeological soil, the materials used in building the Archaeological buildings, its geographical distribution and the sources of salt which it has. At the end it determines the Archaeological Sites which face the hazard of raising the underground water. It also takes 'Apidos' region as an example to recognize the reasons of hazards and ways of treatment.

Chapter 4 : is 'weathering and its effects on the Archaeological Sites in Sohag Governorate'. It deals with weathering with its different shapes which affects the Archaeological Sites. The study shows the most important factors affecting weathering and the most important hazards resulting from it specifying the degrees of its risk. It ends with a study of 'Akhmeem' region as an example.

Chapter 5 : is 'Mass Movements on Slopes and its hazards on the Archaeological Sites '. It studies the shapes of the Mass Wasting affecting the Archaeological Sites in Sohag. It also studies the most important factors which affects the Mass Movement on the slopes and the Morphmetric analysis of the slopes with its different shapes. It ends with a presentation to the most important ways of protection and reducing the hazards of Mass Movement on Slopes.

Chapter 6 : deals with Flash Flood and its effect on the Archaeological Sites in Sohag. It sheds light on the historical record of flash flood and the factors which cause it. It determines the most dangerous basin and its effects on the Archaeological Sites. It ends with some solutions and suggestions to overcome these flood hazards on the study area.

Finally the conclusion tries to present the final results of the study and recommends some suggestions which may help to overcome some Geomorphologic Hazards on the area under study. 331
